Hernon Advances Sealing Metals with Hernon Porosity Sealant (HPS™) 1000 and 1100

Hernon Porosity Sealant HPS™ 1000 or 1100 represent a break through in sealing leaking porous metals such as powder metal castings and sintered metal parts. HPS™ 1000 and 1100 also offer other benefits such as increased lubricity, which lowers tool wear and resistance to degradation by hydrocarbon solvents such as gasoline, motor oil, and transmission fluid. The addition of florescent dye allows for rapid examination of parts to check the thoroughness of the impregnation process. HPS™ 1000 or 1100 are also surfactant free, which eases washing the impregnated parts, and eliminates the need for costly pre-treatment of disposed waste rinse water.

Many metal components, especially cast parts, are plagued by microscopic voids that allow leaks under pressure. This limits the use of these low cost alternatives in applications that require a seal including transmission housings, engine blocks, and gearboxes. HPS™ 1000 or 1100 end this problem by sealing the microscopic voids through a vacuum application process.

The machining properties of parts impregnated with HPS™ 1000 or 1100 is greatly improved because of factors including increased lubricity, filled voids, and better dimensional control. On non-impregnated cast parts, two factors increase the wear of cutting tools. The voids in untreated materials causes the tools to chatter over the surface that can make more precise machining more difficult and tool wear more rapid. The increased lubricity offered by HPS™ 1000 or 1100 also greatly increases the life of tools by lowering tool to part friction, therefore lowering costs.

HPS™ also increases the ability of rapid parts inspection. Included in each HPS™ is a fluorescent dye, which reveals the filled pores under a black light.

The lower viscosity of HPS™ translates into less residue on parts after the process and better sealing of smaller passages. The improved washing from surfaces will eliminate material trapped in blind holds and allows for immediate painting or plating.

Contact your Hernon representative today to discover how HPS™ 1000 or 1100 can lower your machining costs and lower instances of leaking cast metal components. If you are currently using an outdated porosity sealant, find out how HPS™ can speed your processing time and lower costs. Hernon can design, build, and install a complete HPS™ application system to fit your needs. .

PACCAR Approves Hernon Powerseal™ and Dripstop™ Sealants after Success In Peterbilt Application

PACCAR has approved the use of Hernon sealants Powerseal™ and Dripstop™ after the successful implementation of these products at the Peterbilt division. PACCAR operates divisions such as Kenworth, Foden, DAF, and others. Peterbilt had previously utilized an anaerobic sealing compound during pre-assembly that did not offer the pliability necessary for part adjustment during final assembly. Hernon's Powerseal™ 932 offered the essential pliability while still maintaining a consistent seal in an environment that includes exposure to hydraulic fluid and motor oil. Peterbilt chose Powerseal™ 932 and the Hernon Autosealer™ 2600 dispensing system to speed assembly and improve reliability of threaded assemblies.

Hernon Powerseal™ is a single component, non-hardening pipe sealant that lubricates and seals threaded pipe connections and o-rings. Powerseal™ is unaffected by water, oil, ammonia, glycerin, steam, exhaust fumes, and most hard-to-hold liquids. Its pliable feature allows Powerseal™ to withstand severe vibration while not crumbling, cracking, or shrinking. Powerseal™ is safe to use on all substrates including plastics and metals, unlike anaerobic sealants that causes stress cracking on many plastic threaded components.

To speed the assembly process and reduce sealant waste, Peterbilt is using the Autosealer™ 2600 sealant dispensing system. The Autosealer™ 2600 is a low-cost, portable, and easy-to-use system for dispensing paste sealants directly onto threaded components.

Hernon Dripstop™ is a series of anaerobic sealants designed for plumbing, refrigeration, and hydraulics. Dripstop™ products are engineered with many advantages over conventional pipe dopes including hardening without shrinkage, lower cost, and no contamination.

PACCAR's Six Sigma Program, a synergistic combination of strategic planning, leadership, and total quality management, pursued this solution.

Peterbilt Motors Co., a division of PACCAR Inc, manufactures premium quality trucks and offers a broad range of services for the over-the-road, construction, municipal and medium-duty markets. Peterbilt combines classic styling, innovative design and superior-quality features in a comprehensive, custom-engineered truck that is sold and serviced through its 217 U.S. and Canadian dealerships.
