Threadlocking adhesives are low-viscosity adhesives applied to threaded assemblies such as nuts and bolts. Threadlockers replace expensive locking methods such as lock and split washers while improving the reliability of threaded fasteners. Threadlocking adhesives also seal and prevent corrosion of threaded assemblies.
To use, apply a small amount of conductive thread locker or thread locking adhesive to the front threads of the bolt. As the bolt screws into the nut or retaining piece, the adhesive will coat the female threads. For most applications, one drop is sufficient.
Threadlockers are recommended whenever a threaded fastener will be exposed to vibration or repeated impacts. Even when vibration is not a concern, threadlockers are advised for threaded assemblies that are critical to the product’s structure and function.
Threadlockers come in a variety of strengths, colors, and grades. The primary types are based on the strength of the bond and wicking properties: Low, Medium, High, and Wicking.
Threadlocking adhesives from Hernon Manufacturing cure quickly at room temperature under anaerobic conditions. These adhesives enhance the holding power and reliability of threaded assemblies, ensuring they resist loosening due to vibration or impacts. Additionally, threadlockers seal threads against leaks and contamination, providing a barrier against corrosion and galvanic action.
